Overview

Optimax® UV conformal coatings provide a thin, protective polymeric layer on PCBs and electronic assemblies, shielding them from moisture, dust, chemicals, and vibration. In automotive, aerospace, industrial, and consumer electronics applications where assemblies face harsh environments, conformal coating is a critical final process step that determines long-term reliability.

Unlike solvent-based or thermally cured coatings that require long drying cycles and temperature-controlled ovens, UV conformal coatings harden in seconds under UV or LED exposure. This dramatically reduces cure time, eliminates thermal stress on assembled components, and enables immediate transfer to subsequent assembly stages.

Key Benefits

  • High dielectric strength — excellent electrical insulation
  • Minimal added weight or thickness to the assembly
  • Immediate handling after cure — no waiting for solvent evaporation
  • Compatible with spray, dip, and selective coating methods
  • Reduces floor space required for curing stations
  • Lower energy consumption compared to thermal ovens

Applications

  • Automotive electronics — ECUs, sensors, and control modules
  • Industrial control and automation systems
  • Aerospace avionics and instrument systems
  • Consumer and white goods electronics
  • High-density circuit boards requiring thin, uniform coverage
  • LED assemblies and driver boards

Application Guidance

Consistent coating thickness is critical for uniform dielectric protection. Inspect the cured layer to confirm full coverage, particularly around component leads and connectors. For automated application, selective coating robots can apply Optimax® UV conformal coatings with precision, reducing material waste and masking requirements.
